I can remember doing that. With some of the opportunities I’m getting today and the books that I’m being able to write, a friend of mine reminded me the other day; she said: You know, it’s amazing to see what’s going on in your life now and to listen to your tapes about when you used to go to this grocery store up here on the corner and go to this grocery cart basket full of dented cans and cans with no labels on them that you could get for ten cents apiece and take those home, just believing God you’d have food, not cat food. I tell you, when I was in that place, I had to be faithful and we kept giving. We didn’t have much extra to give but I remember taking the bedspread off my bed and giving it away. I remember taking pictures off my wall and giving them away.
Joyce Meyer shares her story. I remember giving somebody my wedding ring that really only cost like $17 - I’d had a better one at one time but Dave had lost it on the golf course. He had it in his pocket, we were playing golf and he pulled it out and lost it. That always makes him sound bad but it was an accident. He didn’t have the money to go buy me another one, so I bought a little ring at a Christian book store. It had a little fish on it and it was the only thing that I had that really was of any value and then one night God told me to give that away. It was like: Well okay, let’s just have absolutely nothing! I just think this is a good way to go. Joyce Meyer Ministries prefer to just have nothing. Here, I had this big vision and dream in my heart to do what I’m doing today and I’m digging around in dented cans and I’m in the grocery store and God’s talking to me about putting my grocery cart back and all those stories I tell, but that was where it all got started and that’s important to me.
